I've never been a huge fan of charcoal. I like firm, clear lines, and charcoal seems like an invitation to smudge them all. But! Here's the huge charcoal secret nobody let me in on until I took Danny Neece's class: working with charcoal is a bit like painting. It's super forgiving, you build in layers, and you can draw and redraw a line for dayyyys... which is probably not the best thing for me.
